Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Review
Xiaomi‘s Redmi Note lineup has been very popular and the Redmi Note 4 is the latest model. It offers great specs fantastic build quality at a budget price.
Design and Build
The front of the phone looks just like previous Note series devices. We have a sharp and bright 5.5inch 1080p display, nicely backlit capacitive buttons and a highly customizable notifications LED light. When you pick the phone you can easily tell that the Redmi Note 4 is solid and might be the best constructed Redmi Note phone yet. It feels like Xiaomi used a higher quality metal in the construction of the Redmi Note 4. The top and bottom parts are made up of aluminum not like previous models that used plastic.
Xiaomi Phone’s have been known for great fingerprint scanner and Redmi Note 4 is no exception. You can unlock your phone very quickly straight from the standby mode. The buttons feel nice and tactile and we have IR blaster to control devices like Tv’s. Xiaomi decided to stick with a micro USB port. Loudspeakers are good as on any other Xiaomi Phone but there is some distortion at highest volume settings. Sound quality via the headset jack is pretty good too.
Specs and Performance
The Redmi Note 4 runs on a Snapdragon 625 with different version like 2/3/4gb Ram and storage options. Overall Redmi Note 4 feels snappy and smooth for day today usage and there aren’t any lag or hiccups. The gaming performance is great and games like Asphalt 8 run fine with few skipped frames. The great thing is that the phone does not have any overheating issues.
When it comes to user interface the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 runs MIUI 8 which uses Andriod 6.0 as a foundation. The MIUI 8 looks similar to older versions but it also has new design touches for example new design quick settings and reorganized full settings menu’s. Now its easier to find everything and the menu just looks cleaner. As usual there are plenty of customizable options Xiaomi phones has been famous for. One of the key features is called Second space. In each space you can have different accounts, apps and so on and you can easily switch from one space to another.
Redmi Note 4 sports a 13MP at the back and a 5MP front facing camera. The camera app allows you to take pictures very fast and play with some basic shooting modes and settings. The 13MP camera produces comparable images to the Redmi Note 3 camera but a software update might get the best out of the camera sensor. The pictures look great and there is good amount of detail in most of the daylight shoots. However there might be times where there will be softer focus and inaccurate looking colors especially indoors. Lowlight is very good for the price, might be best fo the class. The video quality is great it would look even better if it had more detail and looked sharper. The 5Mp produces selfies that is more then enough for social media needs.
The huge 4100mAh battery has been phenomenal the phone lasts 2 days easily even with some heavy usage with performance mode turned on all the time. This translates to over 5 hours of on screen time. If you are a light user you can easily achieve 6 or 7 hours of on screen time.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is another budget offering from the Chinese giant and it is a great phone for its price. The device sports a very good build quality and uses metal in its construction. One of the best in class display, feature rich UI and handles causal games quite well. Finally the battery life is fantastic and if you are in the market for a solid budget phone the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 should be definitely on your list.
